Raising our voice for better copyright for education

There is a need for a better copyright for education. Technological developments have modernised our way of sharing information, but the law has not yet caught up. This negatively affect education. COMMUNIA created the rightcopyright campaign to ask for support for a better copyright for education. Unfortunately, there are still many things teachers do that benefit education but that are not allowed. We would like that to change.

We have to act now

The European Commission has presented a new European copyright law (Draft Directive) to the European Parliament which very much impacts education. Unfortunately, the current proposal is very disappointing and does not facilitate education. Educators have embraced the modern possibilities, and so should copyright. The European Parliament has the power to change the proposal for the better. The European parliament will vote on the Commission’s proposal later this year, and can change, accept or reject it. We will present the outcomes of the petition of our campaign rightcopyright.eu in the European Parliament, clearly showing them the voice of the European citizens eager for a good-quality education, and a copyright that matches.

What you can do to help

We want to raise our voice for better copyright for education. We want a copyright that facilitates education. If you want better copyright for education too, you can:

1. Visit the campaign website at www.rightcopyright.eu
2. Sign the petition.  
3. Share the information about the petition with your colleagues, friends and family via mail, social media or face to face. You can find sample tweets, posts and images on the ‘spread the word’ page.
